Casual/Relief One to One Workers
Location – Kenora
General Description:
The One-to-One Worker is a casual/relief program position. The One-to-One Worker is responsible for the direct supervision of high risk and special needs children. The One-to-One Worker ensures the needs of the child are met according to Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services philosophy, First Nation standards, and Provincial regulations and standards. The One to One Worker reports to the Alternative Care Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides one-to-one supervision in schools, Agency Operated Homes, hotels, or other locations as directed by the Alternative Care Casual Staff Coordinator;
- Ensures the safety and well-being of the child at all times;
- Manages disruptive behaviours in accordance with agency policies and procedures, and within the parameters of the CFSA and provincial standards;
- Provides supervision with structured activities for the child;
- Provides light housekeeping, menu planning, and meal preparation, as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Alternative Care Coordinator;
- Provides On-Call Retainer duties as part of a rotating schedule.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma with one year direct related experience. However, a combination of skills, education and experience may be considered;
- Committed to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times;
- Experience working with high risk and special needs children with a demonstrated ability to interact with children, and establish and maintain a trusting relationship;
- Knowledge of child development and behavior management;
- Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed case notes with respect to date data and situations;
- Good oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
- Ability to work shift work and report to work on short notice in relation to service requirements;
- Current First Aid and C.P.R. certificates, and crisis intervention;
- Must posses a valid Ontario G Drivers License, be willing to travel and provide a current Drivers Abstract; and
- Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is preferred and a definite asset.
Working Conditions:
The position will require the successful candidate to lift up to a maximum of 50Ibs and work in high stress social settings, work with potential aggressive clientele, volatile sociopolitical environments, being called out with no notice to emergency situations, travel to semi-remote Anishinaabe communities on rough and winding class “C” roadways and in various weather conditions, exposure to diverse living conditions and community environments and different sociocultural milieus.
Salary: $31 per hour.
